Welcome
Hello and welcome to our website. In July of this year we, three students of Trinity College, Hartford, CT, will be traveling to Bangalore, India to carry out our Davis Project for Peace. Davis Projects for Peace is a highly competitive grant writing competition for American college and university students to design grassroots initiatives to foster peace throughout the world. Having been selected by the Davis Foundation, we have been granted $10,000 for the execution of our project: Using Rainwater to Foster Peace in Rural Bangalore.
For our project, we are working in collaboration with Rainwater Club, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in India, to promote and implement systems for the collection of rooftop rainwater near the city of Bangalore. Currently, villagers in rural Bangalore rely almost entirely on groundwater for all of their needs. The problem is that groundwater is a limited and fast-depleting resource, which in many areas contains toxic levels of fluoride. It is our hope that through this project, we can provide some disadvantaged Bangaloreans with a sustainable source of clean, healthy water.
The Davis Foundation grant is meant to cover the the cost of materials and of training workers, as well as the cost of travel to India. This website is intended to help us raise additional funding for our project to try to offset the cost of travel so that we can have maximum impact in Bangalore, India.
Thank you for your support,
-David Pierce, Nitin Sajankila, and Lam Hoang
